California Dog Was Placed On The Final List For Being Pregnant, But The Vet Found Something Else

Rosie was scheduled to be euthanized at a crowded shelter before an LA-based rescue stepped in. What they discovered about her past changed everything.

A Misunderstood Condition

When Jen first saw Rosie, she immediately felt a connection. "I was like, she must be mine," Jen recalled about her sweet rescue dog.

But Rosie’s journey to finding a loving home was anything but easy. The dog with the light fur had faced the darkest of days before getting her second chance.

Rosie had been surrendered to a local animal shelter by her previous owners. Upon arrival, the shelter staff evaluated her and deemed that she was pregnant.

Because of her perceived condition and the shelter’s lack of space, she was placed on the euthanasia list. Her time was rapidly running out before she even had a chance to show her true personality.

Saved At The Final Hour

Just as all hope seemed lost, an LA-based rescue called Love At First Mutt stepped in. They refused to let the sweet dog’s story end in a crowded shelter.

The rescue team pulled her to safety on the exact day she was scheduled to be euthanized. It was a miraculous last-minute save that gave her a new lease on life.

Once she was safe in the rescue’s care, a veterinary check was performed to check on her puppies.

However, the examination revealed a completely unexpected twist about the dog’s condition.

The Truth About Her Past

The rescue team was stunned to discover that Rosie wasn’t actually pregnant at all. Her rescuers realized she only looked pregnant because of her recent past.

They suspect she had likely just had a litter of puppies shortly before being abandoned. The team believes she had been used for breeding prior to being dumped at the shelter.

Instead of needing maternity care, Rosie just needed time to heal from her past life.

She was placed into a dedicated foster home where she could finally decompress and learn what it meant to be a beloved pet.

Overcoming Her Shyness

Rosie spent eight months in foster care, becoming deeply attached to her foster mom during that time. When Jen finally met her, the timid dog was very shy and hesitant to trust new people.

Jen knew she had to be patient to win over the nervous pup. To build a bond, Jen spent the first couple of days hand-feeding her new companion.

This gentle approach helped Rosie realize she was finally safe. Slowly but surely, she began to understand that she could trust her new family.

Her true personality started to shine through as she settled into her forever home.

The Gift Of A Safe Space

When Jen first adopted Rosie, her backyard was still unfinished. However, she knew she wanted to create a perfect outdoor haven for her new dog.

Six months later, the family finally completed the yard renovations. They installed dog-safe turf specifically so Rosie would have a soft place to run around.

They couldn’t wait to see how the formerly shy dog would react to having her very own yard.

It was a milestone moment for a dog who had once been locked away in a shelter kennel.

Unleashing The Zoomies

When they finally introduced Rosie to her new backyard, she was initially very nervous. She cautiously took her first step outside, unsure of the strange new environment.

But soon, her bravery kicked in. She realized the space was entirely hers to run and play.

She had an absolute blast, unleashing wild zoomies that very first day. Jen was amazed, noting she had never seen a dog zoom quite like Rosie.

The joyful dog would spin around and jump, with her bursts of energy coming completely out of nowhere.

Fashion For A Cause

As Rosie settled into her outdoor routine, Jen learned more about her specific medical needs. Because of her light fur and pink undertones, Rosie is highly prone to getting sunburned.

To keep her protected while she enjoys her outdoor space, Jen started dressing her in adorable hats.

Now, the sweet rescue dog is well known for her stylish and practical headwear.

It’s just one of the many ways Jen goes above and beyond to ensure Rosie is safe and comfortable.

A Spoiled And Loved Girl

Today, Rosie is living the ultimate spoiled life she always deserved. She refuses to drink room-temperature water, only gulping it down if Jen pours it cold straight from the fridge.

She also has a very active dream cycle, complete with snoring, woofing, and growling at whoever is in her dreams. And when it’s time for a walk, she isn’t shy about giving Jen the side-eye until they head out the door.

"She definitely tells you what she wants," Jen joked about her expressive pup.

Most importantly, Rosie is a deeply comforting presence. Whenever Jen is having a bad day, a snuggle with the dog who was once out of time makes everything better.
