Wisconsin Man Didn’t Want A Blind Dog In His New House, Until A 120-Pound Gentle Giant Tested His Resolve
After being dumped at a Wisconsin shelter and losing his eyes to health issues, a giant puppy named Bear kept getting passed over. But one woman’s determination to foster him ended up changing her husband’s heart forever.
The Pup No One Wanted

Every morning, Bear turns into a giant, furry alarm clock just for his dad. If dad is awake, their day of goofing off can officially begin.
But if dad needs five more minutes of sleep, Bear has no problem settling in for some morning cuddles.
Even at a whopping 120 pounds, this gentle giant still thinks he’s a little puppy. He happily sits wherever he wants, and his family feels he deserves to be completely spoiled after a rough start to life.
Bear and his littermates were all dumped at a shelter when they were young. Tragically, Bear was born without sight, and due to secondary health problems, his eyes eventually had to be removed.
Passed Over In The Kennels

Life at the shelter was difficult for a dog who couldn’t see the world around him.
While the other puppies in the shelter eagerly got attention from potential adopters, Bear was continually overlooked.
People kept walking right past his kennel, unsure of how to care for a dog with special needs.
He was already growing into a “giant puppy,” making him even harder to place in a typical home.
A Reluctant Agreement

Everything changed when a woman named Angela walked through the shelter doors.
She saw Bear and stopped dead in her tracks. She knew immediately that she wanted to bring the sweet dog home.
However, her husband wasn’t so sure about the idea. They were still settling into a brand-new house, and adding a giant, blind puppy to the mix seemed overwhelming.
Initially, he said no to adopting. So, Angela came up with a compromise: she suggested they just foster Bear first.
Learning To Communicate

Bringing Bear home was a learning curve for everyone involved.
At first, it wasn’t as easy as Angela had expected. Training a puppy is hard enough, but training a blind puppy requires a completely different approach.
They couldn’t use standard visual cues, like hand signals, to train him or guide him safely around their new house.
Instead, the family had to learn how to communicate in a way Bear could understand.
Gentle Taps And Patience
The couple quickly adapted their training methods to suit Bear’s needs.
They began using gentle physical taps and relied heavily on the sound of their voices to guide him.
It took a whole lot of patience, but the effort was entirely worth it.
Little by little, Bear started figuring it all out, mapping the house in his mind and gaining confidence.
One Speed Only

Once Bear felt comfortable in his surroundings, he completely surprised his foster family.
Most people might assume that a blind dog would be slow, hesitant, and cautious when moving around.
But Bear proved them all wrong. He only has one speed: fast!
His joyful, uninhibited zooming around the house brought endless laughter to the couple.
Breaking Down Walls

It was this goofy, resilient spirit that began to work its magic on Angela’s husband.
The man who had initially said no to bringing a dog into their new home was suddenly melting.
Bear’s playful antics and demand for affection broke down every single wall around his foster dad’s heart.
Before long, the 120-pound dog was always right by his dad’s side, becoming his ultimate shadow.
The Missing Puzzle Piece

It didn’t take long for the inevitable to happen.
When dad finally admitted that Bear was a “foster fail” and would be staying forever, absolutely no one was surprised.
They say love is blind, and Bear is the one who proved that phrase to be true for his family.
Today, he is their baby, and their every day revolves around him. And they wouldn’t have it any other way, because Bear is truly their missing puzzle piece.
