When a stray dog was found wandering the streets of Long Beach, it was immediately clear that he was facing a massive physical hurdle.

He couldn’t move like a typical pup. Instead, he relied entirely on his upper body strength to get around.

He would use his front arms to pull himself forward, while his back legs stuck out straight underneath him.

The sweet dog, later named Loki, needed immediate help to figure out what was holding his body back.

An Uncertain Future

A veterinary examination soon revealed the root of Loki’s mobility issues.

His caretakers discovered that the brave little dog had a severe deformity in his spine.

The diagnosis was daunting, and it left his rescuers with a heavy question on their minds.

They simply didn’t know if Loki would ever be able to walk on his own again.

Despite the grim diagnosis, Loki’s foster family was determined to give him the best life possible.

Since he couldn’t support his own weight, they had to get creative with his transportation.

They started by using a supportive sling to help lift his back end while he used his front paws.

For longer trips, his caretakers would carefully place him in a wagon or a specialized pet stroller so he could still enjoy the outdoors.

Eventually, Loki’s caretakers decided it was time to give him a bit more independence.

They got him a custom doggie wheelchair designed to support his back legs while letting him steer with his front.

However, the transition wasn’t an instant success.

It took Loki quite a while to get used to the strange contraption on wheels.

His foster family patiently used treats to coax him forward, trying to encourage him to move while strapped into the chair.

A Sudden Breakthrough

Progress with the wheelchair was slow and steady, until one unforgettable afternoon.

Loki’s caretakers took him to the local park, hoping the fresh air would lift his spirits.

While they were there, Loki spotted another dog running around and playing in the grass.

The sight triggered something deep inside him. Forgetting his hesitation, Loki just took off, racing after his new friend in his wheels.

Healing In The Water

With his confidence soaring in the wheelchair, his caretakers introduced a new step in his rehabilitation.

Loki began seeing a swim therapist who used different aquatic methods to encourage him to start moving his back legs.

The water provided a weightless environment, taking the pressure off his deformed spine.

It took a couple of months of dedicated therapy sessions before they started seeing a real impact.

Slowly but surely, Loki became able to use his legs the way that they were originally meant to function.

Driven By Play

As Loki gained strength and figured out how his body worked, his true personality began to shine through.

His physical therapy quickly turned into a fun game, and it was all about play.

All the energetic pup wanted to do was chase his favorite ball and hunt down the squeaker inside his toys.

His absolute obsession with playing fetch became the best motivation for his continued recovery.

A Second Chance At Life

The transformation from a dog dragging his legs on the street to an active, playful pup was nothing short of a miracle.

When his foster parent first saw him finally standing and walking on his own, the emotion was overwhelming.

They were incredibly excited and thrilled for him, knowing he had conquered his past.

Today, Loki’s life looks completely different. He loves going for long walks and wrestling with his foster brothers.

Most importantly, he finally gets to live a normal, happy dog’s life, chasing his beloved ball whenever he pleases.
