When a sweet Texas dog named Pippi was surrendered to Pip’s Rescue, she was understandably apprehensive about her new surroundings. Everything she knew had changed, and she needed a safe space to decompress and show her true personality.

The rescue team knew that a shelter environment wouldn’t be the best fit for her. Pippi needed to get into a good foster setting where she could feel secure.

Busting Out Of Her Shell

“She just came in, and it was like she was always here,” her foster mom recalled. “She just fit in so well. It’s like she’s been here forever.”

The foster mom is a stage 4 colorectal cancer patient who is now two years cancer-free. Having faced her own grueling medical battles, she knew exactly how important patience, rest, and compassionate care were to the healing process.

Honoring The Doctors Who Saved Her

Pippi’s foster mom has turned her second chance at life into a mission to save others. She made a powerful promise to herself during her recovery.

“I said, ‘I am going to take in and foster a dog in honor of each of the doctors that saved my life,'” she explained.

That beautiful promise quickly took off, transforming into a lifelong passion. She has fostered countless dogs since then, declaring, “I won’t stop. I’m going to just keep going and going and going.”

The Mischievous Shoe Thief

While Pippi was settling in beautifully, she still needed a little bit of work when it came to household manners. Her playful nature often led to some hilarious mischief.

She quickly developed a habit of stealing shoes, chewing on her leash, and running off with towels. Her foster mom had to step in and play the enforcer, jokingly calling herself “Buzz Killington.”

Despite the constant corrections, Pippi’s antics only made her more endearing. She was simply a dog who was thrilled to finally have a home to play in.

Structure and Veterinary Care

To ensure Pippi’s medical issues were properly managed, her foster mom took her to the vet for a thorough checkup. It was a crucial step in getting the sweet dog back on track.

“Through getting her into a vet and getting some good structure, she was well on her way to recovery,” her foster mom noted.

Her foster dad is a quiet guy, and Pippi seemed to deeply appreciate his calm energy. After a long day of playing and stealing towels, she loved seeking him out for some downtime.

“She really enjoyed my husband,” her foster mom shared. “She enjoyed just that peaceful time.”

Happy Tears Only

As Pippi blossomed into a wonderful family dog, her foster mom knew their time together was drawing to a close. Saying goodbye is never easy, but it is the ultimate goal of fostering.

“I’m gonna miss her, but you got to cry happy tears only when they go,” she explained. Every time a foster dog leaves, it means another shelter cage can be emptied.

Pippi is now fully prepared to find her forever home. She looks at her caretakers with deep gratitude, eager to show how much she cares right back.

To celebrate all of Pippi’s incredible progress, her foster family treated her to a very special outing. They pulled up to a drive-thru for a well-deserved reward.

“And one pup cup for a very lucky rescue dog,” her foster mom announced as Pippi happily enjoyed her sweet treat.

With her health managed and her heart full of love, Pippi is finally ready for the life she always deserved. Her foster mom knows without a doubt that her perfect forever family is out there waiting.
