When Haku first arrived at his new home, the little cockatiel carried a heavy burden from his past. He had been rescued from a situation where he was used solely as a breeding bird.

Life before his rescue hadn’t given him much reason to be joyful or outgoing.

The trauma of his past left him withdrawn, fearful, and unsure of his new surroundings.

In those early days, Haku had a very depressed demeanor about him.

He didn’t want to interact with anyone in the home. He would simply sit in the back of his aviary, trying to make himself as small as possible.

He didn’t want a lot of attention and preferred to stay hidden away from the world.

An Unexpected Introduction

His family worried about the frightened little bird, hoping he would eventually come out of his shell.

Then, they introduced him to Bear. Bear was the family dog, a gentle soul with an incredibly patient nature.

No one knew exactly how the tiny, fearful bird would react to such a large animal.

When Haku met Bear, everything shifted. That single introduction was the turning point the little bird desperately needed.

His spirit visibly brightened in the dog’s presence.

Whenever Bear would come near, Haku would actually start saying things like, “Yoo-hoo!”

Bear’s calm and steady presence did more than just make Haku vocal. It really allowed the fearful cockatiel to start trusting his environment.

Because he felt safe with Bear, Haku began to open up to his human family, too.

Soon, the once-terrified bird started eating right out of their hands, a beautiful milestone in his transformation.

Today, the two share a relationship that their family says is very relatable to human siblings.

Haku acts exactly like a younger brother who looks up to his older sibling.

He constantly wants to follow Bear everywhere, insisting on being a part of everything the dog does.

Songs and Gentle Nibbles

Haku loves to entertain his furry best friend. He will often just sit near Bear, whistling and singing special tunes just for him.

If Bear doesn’t give him the reaction he wants, Haku has a funny way of getting his attention.

He will waddle over and give the dog little nibbles on his ear, as if to say, “Did you hear what I was saying?”

A Beautiful Transformation

Through it all, Bear is an amazingly good sport, patiently accepting his tiny brother’s antics.

Their interactions are always closely monitored by their family, ensuring everyone stays safe, but the love between them is undeniable.

It has become a vital part of their daily routine to spend time together. As his family notes, if it wasn’t for Bear, they might still have a scared little cockatiel hiding in the back of a cage.
