Felipe used to be afraid of pit bulls, but a special shelter date with a dog named Whisper proves just how sweet these misunderstood pups can be.
Ready For A Date
Felipe was getting ready for a very special date in California.
He wasn’t meeting just anyone. He was meeting an eight-year-old shelter dog named Whisper.
Whisper had been waiting in a California shelter for a year and a half, hoping for someone to notice her.
When she finally slid out of her kennel to meet him, Felipe greeted her with a warm smile.

In fact, he admitted that he used to be afraid of them after watching scary movies like Cujo.
His perspective changed one day when he was working with fellow comedian Rebecca Corry, who runs a rescue for pit bulls.
Her dog, Todd, jumped into Felipe’s lap as if they had known each other forever, and it was love at first sight.
Two Pit Bulls Of His Own
That single moment with Todd changed Felipe’s life.
He went from being afraid of pit bulls to becoming a proud owner of two.
He treats his dogs like babies, and they even travel with him on tour sometimes, especially when he drives up north.
Now, sitting with Whisper, he couldn’t imagine anyone not wanting such a sweet dog.
Finding The Light
Whisper has had a tough time, waiting in the shelter for 18 long months.
Felipe knows a little something about finding joy in difficult situations.
Growing up in a family of six boys and one sister in a four-bedroom apartment in the Pico-Aliso housing projects, things weren’t always easy.
But they laughed the whole time, not even realizing they were in a bad situation because everyone around them was in the same boat.
Snack Time
No date is complete without some tasty snacks.
Felipe offered Whisper some blueberries, noting that they are good for digestion.
Whisper enjoyed the treats, and Felipe even had one himself.
He was careful with what he offered, knowing that Whisper has a protein allergy and needs a special diet.
