California Dog Was Never Meant To Be A Support Animal, But Her Reaction To A Tiny Kitten Changed Everything

When a shelter worker in California adopted a dog named Chicken, she had no idea the gentle pup would become a dedicated foster mom to every tiny kitten and bunny that came through their doors.

You could tell she was trying to hold in her excitement.

Yet, despite her joy, she was moving so carefully around the fragile new arrival.

When her family adopted Chicken in California back in May of 2022, they simply wanted to give a shelter dog a loving home.

It was never the goal for her to become an emotional support dog.

Chicken’s mom works at a local animal shelter.

Because of her job, she often sees animals who urgently need a temporary place to go.

Over the years, she has fostered a lot of different animals in need of a safe haven.

Naturally, Chicken was exposed to a revolving door of temporary furry houseguests.

Meeting Gumball

The real turning point happened when the family brought home a fragile, 3.5-week-old kitten.

The tiny feline was given the name Gumball by the family’s son.

Up until that point, Chicken had mostly been around other dogs.

That little kitten was Chicken’s first introduction to the fact that her mom brought home more than just puppies.

A Surprising Preference

Since Gumball’s arrival, there have been many more kittens to come through the house.

Chicken’s reaction to the different species is incredibly interesting to her family.

When it comes to tiny baby puppies, she usually decides they are too small and isn’t really that interested.

But when it comes to tiny kittens, she is completely captivated and just wants to watch them.

Chicken’s gentle nature isn’t just reserved for felines.

The family has even brought home foster bunnies, and Chicken treats them with the exact same care.

Her mom says it is never not the cutest thing in the world to witness.

Seeing Chicken carefully interact with a teeny-tiny baby animal melts their hearts every single time.

Beyond her foster duties, Chicken is a deeply devoted family dog.

She shares a special bond with her human brother, Max.

Max and Chicken are the cutest little best friends in the whole world.

Whether they are giving belly rubs or just hanging out, they make every day the best day ever.

A Universal Connection

Chicken’s empathy extends to the adults in the house, too.

Her mom’s absolute favorite thing about Chicken is how she reacts to human emotions.

Whenever her mom is upset, Chicken immediately comes over and checks on her.

Her reach is truly wild, proving that she has a special kind of magic that everybody can connect with.
