California Man Agrees To Foster Massive Dog Everyone Feared, Then The Crate Door Opens
When a massive rescue dog arrived at his foster home, he was treated like a dangerous wild animal. But beneath his terrifying reputation was a misunderstood soul desperate for love.
A Race Against The Clock
He was a massive dog with a terrifying reputation. Weighing in at over 120 pounds, the towering canine had been labeled as aggressive by the shelter that took him in.
Found abandoned in an empty lot, the giant dog was completely alone and misunderstood. Staff members were so terrified of him that they kept their distance, sealing his fate.
Because of his daunting size and the unfair label attached to him, he was placed on the euthanasia list within 48 hours. He was on borrowed time, and it was going to take a village to save him.
A volunteer with The Animal Pad (TAP) stepped in to help coordinate a last-minute rescue. They scrambled to find a driver and a crate big enough to transport the giant dog.
The timing was incredibly tight. In fact, the rescue team missed the shelter’s deadline by 30 minutes, but thankfully, the staff had held onto him.
Expecting A Wild Animal
The man who agreed to foster him admitted he was terrified before they met. He didn’t know what he had gotten himself into, but he knew this pup deserved a chance.
When the transport finally arrived at his home, the scene was intense. The massive dog was lifted out of the vehicle in his heavy crate.
Because of the warnings about his behavior, the handlers moved cautiously. His foster dad recalled that he was moved “as if he was like a lion.”
The Sweetest Surprise
Taking a deep breath, his foster dad opened the crate door. He braced himself for the aggressive behavior that had been written all over his shelter paperwork.
Instead, the giant dog trotted up to him in a very nervous way. He didn’t bare his teeth or growl; he just looked up at him with hopeful eyes.

He officially made the decision to adopt the dog, giving him the permanent home he had always deserved. The gentle giant, now named Beau, finally knew he was safe.
The Farm Protector
Beau’s new life came with some unique siblings, including free-roaming chickens and ducks. His dad needed to get him used to the birds, hoping his sweet nature would extend to the flock.
