California Dog Overlooked By Adopters Gets An Entire Park Rented Just For His Therapy Day
When a dedicated California rescuer needed a mental health break, she decided to rent out an entire dog park for a handsome, overlooked shelter dog who needed a day of freedom just as much as she did.
The Most Overlooked Dog

Sometimes, the best kind of therapy doesn’t happen in an office. For one dedicated California animal rescuer having a stressful week, healing meant spending the day with a dog who needed a break just as much as she did.
She decided to plan a special outing for a very special pup. The goal was simple: give a shelter dog an incredible day to boost both of their spirits.
The lucky recipient of this Freedom Therapy was a handsome boy named Atlas, who is currently waiting for his forever family at K9 Rescue Club.
Despite his striking looks, Atlas holds the heartbreaking title of the rescue’s most overlooked dog. His rescuer notes that he is the type of dog people often pay thousands of dollars for, yet he sits waiting for a family to choose him.
He is undeniably beautiful, though his cropped ears hint at a past that makes his human friend sad to think about. Why would someone do that to you? she wonders aloud, looking at his sweet face.
A Private Park Just For Him

To give Atlas the ultimate day out, his rescuer went above and beyond. She rented out an entire dog park so he could have the space completely to himself.
Currently, Atlas is staying at a board and train facility. While it’s incredible that he is working on his skills and getting professional guidance, the structured environment can be a lot of work.
The best part about this special therapy day is that Atlas gets to completely let loose. He has the whole park to just run and do whatever his heart desires.
Understanding His Boundaries

As they run around the empty park, it quickly becomes a contest of who will get tired first. The private space is especially important for Atlas because he is still working on his social skills with other dogs.
His rescuer is quick to advocate for him, reminding people that dogs who don’t love every other dog are still just as worthy of a forever home.
“Think of it this way,” she explains. “Do you like every person you meet? I know I don’t.”
A Bag Full Of Surprises

No perfect day out is complete without presents. For this session, his rescuer brought along a whole bunch of his favorite toys to see how he would react.
When she pulls them out, Atlas’s eyes light up. He is immediately drawn to the tennis balls, his absolute favorite things in the world.
“Go, go, go get it!” she cheers as he chases after his new prizes. The pure joy on his face confirms that the surprise is a massive success.
Capturing His True Smile

While Atlas is busy playing, his rescuer takes the opportunity to snap some new headshots of him. A dog’s shelter photo can make or break their chances of adoption.
She wants to capture the essence of what a happy dog he actually is when he isn’t in a stressful environment.
In the open field, away from the noise of kennels and training facilities, his true, goofy personality shines through perfectly.
Sweet Treats For A Good Boy

After working up an appetite, it is time for some special snacks. His rescuer brought along some dog-friendly sweet treats for him to sample.
Atlas is so excited that he tries to get a head start before she can even finish preparing it. They start with a blueberry flavor, which he happily devours.
Next up is the birthday cake flavor. Watching him enjoy his treats brings a huge smile to his rescuer’s face, making her own stressful week melt away.
A Collection Of Joy

Eventually, Atlas settles down in the grass. He looks like just a happy guy sitting with his snacks, his sweet treats, and his growing collection of toys.
“Literally all he cares about is his balls,” his rescuer laughs, watching him guard his favorite toys with gentle pride.
This is the true magic of Freedom Therapy. It allows dogs to show their fun, relaxed side and just be themselves for a little while.
Ready For A Forever Home

As their therapy session comes to a close, Atlas looks up at his friend, panting and perfectly content. The day was exactly what they both needed.
His rescuer looks at his happy face and tells him, “You’re going to get adopted so soon, buddy.”
For now, Atlas will head back to his training, but he will carry the memory of his perfect day. Hopefully, his next big adventure will be walking through the doors of his forever home.
