After being abandoned in the freezing cold for days, a sweet dog lands in a Rhode Island foster home. When unexpected medical issues arise, his foster mom steps up to give him the ultimate second chance.
A Chilling Discovery
For three long days, a dog sat tied up in a garage complex, completely alone. The temperatures were freezing, and he had no food to keep him warm or give him strength.
He waited patiently, hoping someone would finally notice him and bring him to safety.
Fortunately, help finally arrived. A rescuer gently approached the shivering pup, saying, “Hi, you okay? Good baby. Let’s get you off of this.”

Having never experienced a dog having a seizure before, his foster mom was understandably terrified.
She didn’t know exactly what to do, but she knew he needed immediate help. She took him to the veterinarian right away to get answers.
The vet was able to prescribe the right medication to help manage his condition.
While the medication helped, it didn’t completely cure him. He continued to have seizures, though thankfully not as often.
Comfort Through The Storm
Living with a dog who has seizures requires patience and deep compassion. Some days, the episodes are severe, and he loses control of his bodily functions until he snaps out of it.
But his foster mom has learned to read his signals. She now knows exactly when he is about to have an episode.
When she senses a seizure coming on, she makes sure he falls gently onto her or safely onto the floor.
She stays right by his side, bringing him comfort and speaking softly to him until he wakes back up.
Simple Joys And Resilience
It has been almost a year since that freezing day in the garage complex. Today, his foster mom has most of his medical issues well under control.
Through it all, he has proven to be an incredibly resilient boy. He never lets his medical challenges knock him down.
He focuses on the simple joys in life. He loves sleeping in warm spots and cuddling with his favorite person.
His absolute favorite treats are peanut butter and chicken. According to his mom, he would be thrilled if that was all he ate for the rest of his life.
From Foster To Forever
What started as a temporary foster situation quickly blossomed into a permanent bond.
After nursing him through his scariest moments and learning how to catch him when he falls, his foster mom knew she could never let him go.
He officially became a “foster fail,” finding his forever home with the woman who saved him.
They had weathered the storm together, and now they were officially family.
A Mutual Rescue
Today, she proudly calls him her “soul dog.” Even though she was the one who brought him inside from the cold, she feels that he actually rescued her.
As a postdoctoral fellow, her work can be incredibly demanding and overwhelming at times.
But her sweet dog holds her accountable. He makes sure she comes home at a reasonable hour and doesn’t stay too late at work.
Walking through the door to see him super excited to greet her makes every challenge worth it, proving that the best rescues always go both ways.
