New York Pit Bull With Expressive Eyebrows Watches His Pregnant Mom With Growing Concern
A tiny puppy abandoned by breeders finds a loving home and discovers his true calling as a cuddly protector for his pregnant mom.
A Heartbreaking Start
When Steven and Jessica got married in 2021, they knew they wanted to open their New York home to a rescue dog.
They soon learned that despite the tough stereotypes surrounding pit bulls, these sweet dogs often require what the couple calls “extreme cuddles.”
That realization perfectly described Koby, a puppy whose life began with a heartbreaking betrayal.
At just four weeks old, Koby and his siblings were abandoned at a local shelter.
They had been born to a group of breeders, but because the litter of eight weren’t purebred pit bulls, they were simply tossed in a box and left at the front door.
The Only Tan Puppy
Thankfully, a local rescue group on Long Island called Ollie’s Angels heard about the abandoned litter.
They immediately reached out to the shelter and offered to take all eight puppies into their care.
Koby stood out from the rest of his siblings right away.
While all the other puppies in the litter were gray and white, Koby was the only one with a beautiful tan coat.
When Steven and Jessica finally got to meet him, the tiny American Stafford Terrier mix just melted into their embrace.
Comforting A Tiny Soul
The connection was so immediate that within an hour of meeting him, the couple was able to bring Koby home.
However, the trauma of being separated from his mother at such a young age still lingered.
During his first few nights in his new house, the tiny puppy had a lot of trouble sleeping.
To help him feel safe, his new parents bought him a special stuffed animal that was warm and had a simulated heartbeat.
That comforting toy made all the difference, though he still likes to nibble on blankets—a lasting habit from being weaned too early.
Those Expressive Human Eyes
Over the past two years, Koby has grown into a deeply emotional and expressive dog.
Jessica and Steven joke that he is like a little child they have raised from infancy.
He wants to be with them constantly, and if he ever has to be left behind, he gives them an incredibly sad look.
His parents call them his “human eyes” because they convey exactly what he is feeling.
Between his big eyes and his expressive eyebrows, looking at Koby is almost like looking at a person.
Trying To Win Over The Cat
Koby isn’t the only rescue pet in the household.
He shares his home with Rocky, a cat whom Steven and Jessica rescued from under a dumpster about 13 years ago.
Koby is full of playful energy and constantly tries to engage his older feline sibling.
In Koby’s mind, the two of them are playing all the time.
Rocky, however, is a senior cat who generally wants absolutely nothing to do with the energetic young dog.
The Ultimate Daddy’s Boy
Despite his deep love for both of his parents, Koby definitely plays favorites when it comes to playtime.
Jessica admits that she has to be the “bad parent” who spends the day disciplining him and telling him what not to do.
Steven, on the other hand, is the fun parent, and Koby has become a massive daddy’s boy.
About 20 minutes before Steven is scheduled to get home from work, Koby takes his post at the window to watch for him.
When Steven finally walks through the door, Koby showers him with hugs and kisses.
A Protective New Role
Recently, Koby’s sweet personality has taken on a new, protective dimension.
Jessica is pregnant, and the intuitive dog has sensed the change in his mom.
Since her pregnancy began, Koby follows Jessica all around the house to make sure she is safe.
Every time she sits down to rest, he gently lays his heavy head right on her baby bump.
He has already become fiercely protective of the future little sister he hasn’t even met yet.
A Beautiful Everyday Life
Having grown up entirely with cats, Jessica says this whole experience was completely new to her.
But the sweet, emotional rescue puppy has officially turned her into a “dog person.”
For Steven, who calls Koby the son he never had, the dog has become a vital part of his daily routine.
He notes that after a tough day at work, it’s wonderful to come home to a beautiful wife and a dog guaranteed to greet him with pure excitement.
From a tiny puppy dumped in a box to a beloved family member, Koby finally has the safe, loving life he always deserved.
