A Rough Start on the Streets
Ted’s life didn’t start out with warm beds and endless affection. He and his sister were originally found wandering the streets all alone.
When they were finally brought to safety, both puppies were in rough shape. They were suffering from sick stomachs and were understandably terrified of the world around them.
They desperately needed a quiet place to heal and someone to show them that humans could be trusted.
Stepping Up to Foster
When Ted’s future owner heard about the puppies, she decided to step up. It was her very first time fostering, and the experience was incredibly nerve-wracking.
Despite her nerves, she welcomed the sick, scared siblings into her home. Ted was just a “wee little nugget” at the time, weighing only three or four pounds.
He quickly found comfort by sleeping directly on her chest. That simple, trusting gesture was all it took for a deep bond to begin forming.
A Very Important Email
As the days passed, Ted proved to be a super affectionate puppy. His foster mom quickly realized that she was getting incredibly attached to the tiny dog.
Soon, she learned that Ted’s sister had already been spoken for by another family. Knowing that Ted would be looking for his own forever home next, she knew what she had to do.
She sat down and emailed the rescue organization about adopting him herself. It was the best decision she could have made.
Meeting the Older Sister
Staying in the home meant Ted had to officially become a permanent little brother. He was introduced to the family’s 10-year-old dog, Lullaby.
Lullaby was a curious and friendly senior dog. She would gently come into the room just to smell the new tiny addition to the family.
The two dogs slowly acclimated to each other’s presence. It wasn’t long before their relationship began to blossom into a beautiful friendship.
Bringing Out the Puppy Energy
Before Ted arrived, Lullaby lived a very relaxed senior lifestyle. Her favorite activity was simply finding a warm patch of sunlight and laying down for a nap.
But Ted’s youthful energy completely changed the dynamic in the house. Now, the older dog is much more inclined to get up, run, and play.
Ted has definitely had a wonderful, revitalizing impact on his older sister. The two of them have brought out the absolute best in each other.
Looking Past the Stereotypes
Despite Ted’s incredibly sweet nature, his mom still deals with unfair judgment. Because Ted is a pit bull, some people are quick to be negative.
She has had strangers cross the street to avoid them, and some have even told her that pit bulls are “horrible dogs.”
But she just brushes the negativity off and tells people to chill out. She knows the truth about her sweet boy, and she uses her platform as a gentle warning that adopting a pit bull might just result in a dog who snores right behind you all day.
Each Other’s Security Blanket
Today, Ted and his mom are super bonded. He is always asking for physical contact, whether it’s resting his head against hers or offering a paw for a “firm handshake.”
His emotional intelligence is just as strong as his need for cuddles. One time, when his mom was crying, Ted came over and gently licked every single tear off her face until she was laughing.
She wants the world to know that pit bull-type dogs can be the most affectionate, smartest animals you could ever invite into your life. Ted has become her security blanket, and she is so incredibly happy he stayed.
