Blind Puppy Learns To Follow Colorado Woman’s Footsteps And Refuses To Leave Her Side
A special-needs puppy from Saipan born completely blind learns to navigate the world with the help of his Colorado foster mom, leading to a beautiful and unexpected forever home.
A Heartbreaking Discovery

She looked down at the tiny, eyeless puppy and felt an immediate tug at her heartstrings. “Instantly I thought, ‘Nobody’s going to want a puppy with no eyes,'” she recalled.
It is notoriously hard to find forever homes for dogs who require extra care and special accommodations.
Refusing to let him fall through the cracks, she decided to take him home as a foster. She affectionately named the sweet little boy Charles.
Navigating The Dark

For a tiny, blind puppy, the world can be a vast and intimidating place.
There were more than a few hiccups at first as Charles learned how to simply exist in his new environment.
He would sometimes wander the wrong way or get a little disoriented in the house. But his foster mom was always right there, gently guiding him back to safety.
A Seeing Eye Human

To help Charles map out his surroundings, his foster mom came up with a clever solution.
“Anywhere I went, I would make these clicking noises, and his ears would perk up,” she shared.
Hearing the familiar sound, the brave little pup would prance right over to her. As she guided him through the house, he began to rely on her entirely, essentially using her as his very own “Seeing Eye human.”
Listening Closely

As the days turned into weeks, Charles grew more confident in his own skin.
His bond with his foster mom became the anchor that helped him adjust to a life without sight.
Eventually, he didn’t even need the clicking noises to find his way around. He learned the unique rhythm and sound of her footsteps, following her with ease.
Snuggles And Quirks

The trust between the pair blossomed into a beautiful, unbreakable friendship. “Each day, we became closer and closer to each other,” she noted.
Charles even developed a hilarious and endearing bedtime routine.
At night, the loving pup insisted on sleeping right on top of his foster mom’s head, pressing his body against her face to feel secure.
A Flight To The States

His foster mom had co-founded an organization dedicated to sending rescued dogs from Guam and Saipan to adopters and rescues Stateside.
The plan had always been to get Charles healthy, confident, and ready for a flight to a new life.
A few weeks ago, a transport flight was scheduled to depart. Charles was supposed to be one of the lucky passengers on board.
The Missed Connection

When the day of the big flight arrived, things didn’t go exactly as planned.
Charles never made it onto the plane. “He missed his flight,” his foster mom joked. “Well, I mean he intentionally missed his flight.”
The truth was, after everything they had been through together, saying goodbye was simply impossible.
Right Where He Belongs

Gathering her friends and family, she made a joyful announcement: “Guys, I have something to tell you. I’m keeping Charles.”
The foster arrangement was officially over, and Charles was finally adopted by the woman who had guided him through the dark.
Today, Charles is living his best life, celebrating his new status with delicious pup cups and endless cuddles. “I simply couldn’t imagine life without him in it,” she shared.
