Tiny Texas Puppy Faced Surgery And Kennel Cough Before Trying Something That Changed His Spirits
A Rough Start For A Sweet Pup

Healing Through Love

When Topaz first arrived at Laurette’s home, the toll of his medical struggles was obvious.
“You could see he was recovering and he was sad,” Laurette recalled of his early days in foster care.
Determined to lift his spirits, she made sure to shower him with love, attention, and plenty of kisses.
It didn’t take long for the puppy’s sweet, affectionate personality to shine through the sadness.
Topaz quickly became a little shadow, refusing to leave Laurette’s side and staying right by her feet wherever she went.
The Baby Pool Experiment

As a foster mom, Laurette knew it was her responsibility to introduce Topaz to new elements and build his confidence.
Because he had been feeling so down, she decided to try something fun and introduced him to a small baby pool.
At first, it was just a new object to investigate, but Topaz quickly figured out what it was for.
After just a few tries, the little dog was happily splashing around and jumping straight into the water.
The simple activity brought a spark of joy back into the puppy’s life.
Taking The Big Leap

Topaz’s love for the water continued to grow as the days passed.
One particularly hot day, Laurette was in the big swimming pool when Topaz made a surprising decision.
Without hesitation, the brave pup decided to jump right into the big pool after her.
“It was a big step, going from the baby pool to the big pool, but he did really, really well,” Laurette shared.
She cheered him on with “Good swims!” as he paddled confidently through the water.
A Shared Family Trait

Seeing how much Topaz adored the water gave Laurette a wonderful idea.
She decided to call Kathy from Hope Ranch, the rescue organization involved, to ask how Topaz’s siblings were doing.
To Laurette’s surprise, Kathy revealed that the other puppies loved the water just as much as Topaz did.
Learning about this shared family trait sparked a heartwarming plan in Laurette’s mind.
“My thought was, ‘It would be really sweet to reintroduce Topaz to his siblings and his mom,'” she explained.
The Sweet Reunion

When the day of the reunion arrived, Laurette was incredibly excited to finally meet Topaz’s mother, Gemma.
As they pulled up, Laurette gently asked Topaz, “Do you remember where we are? Do you remember this place?”
Topaz seemed absolutely pumped to see his beautiful mom again, and Gemma couldn’t have been more friendly and excited to greet them.
Then, one by one, Topaz’s three brothers came running out from different directions.
The siblings instantly recognized each other and started happily wrestling in the yard.
A Splashing Success

The reunion wouldn’t have been complete without the one thing all the dogs loved most: water.
Soon, all four puppies and their mama were happily splashing around in the pool together.
The joyful chaos spilled over as the wet, happy dogs jumped all over Laurette in their excitement.
“This is what happens when you get four puppies and their mama in the pool,” Laurette joked.
For the dedicated foster mom, seeing the rescued family so happy and healthy was totally worth the mess.
A Foster Fail Ending

After a long day of swimming and playing with his family, Topaz was completely exhausted.
On the car ride home, the little pup was totally knackered and slept the entire way back to Laurette’s house.
The beautiful reunion and the incredible bond they had built proved to be too much for Laurette to walk away from.
She realized she simply couldn’t let the sweet, water-loving dog go.
In the best possible ending to his rescue journey, Laurette officially “foster failed” and made Topaz a permanent part of her family.
