There are dog lovers. And then there’s that unique type of pet parent who’s so obsessed with dogs that the whole “people” thing barely crosses their mind, if it even does. You might spot them in selfies with their pup (so much for the “selfie” definition). Or you might see them head to work with more separation anxiety than their dog. Here are 15 signs you love your dog more than people.

You can’t stand seeing dogs in pain.

You’re all about horror movies and love the thrill of being scared—bring on the creepy scenes, the jump scares, and the suspense. But when it comes to a dog getting hurt on screen? Nope, that’s where you draw the line. Even in the middle of a scary movie, if a pup gets injured or scared, you hit pause, cover your eyes, or even leave the room.

You’d rather stay home with your dog than go out.

You get invited to hang out, but deep down, you’re not excited. Why? Because you’d much rather stay home and spend some quality time with your dog. The thought of playing fetch, cuddling on the couch, or just watching your pup make some goofy sounds (which they always do) is way more fun than whatever’s going on outside.

Dog toys everywhere? Totally fine with you.

You can’t stand when people leave things lying around—it drives you crazy when things aren’t neat and tidy. But when it’s your dog’s toys scattered all over the house? Suddenly, it’s cute. You might trip over a chew toy or step on a squeaky ball, but instead of getting annoyed, you just smile because those toys are a sign of your dog’s happy little life.

You can’t stand when people ignore your dog.

If a friend ignores your dog? That’s a one-way ticket to no repeat invites or holiday cards. You can handle a lot of things, but when someone doesn’t acknowledge your furry friend, it’s a total dealbreaker. Dogs are family, and if someone can’t show them a little love, they’re definitely not getting another shot at being in your circle.

You’ll stay still just to let your dog nap in peace.

You’re at your happiest when you’re stuck in one spot, unable to move, because your dog is fast asleep in your lap. It doesn’t matter if you’ve got a million things to do—nothing beats that feeling when your pup is resting peacefully on you. Even though you’re practically frozen in place, you wouldn’t trade it for anything.

You’ll share your food with your dog but not with anyone else.

You’re not big on sharing your food with anyone—nope, your snacks are for you. But when it comes to your dog? That’s a whole different story. You’ll happily sneak them a little bite or two, even if you know you’re spoiling them. After all, who else will appreciate your food the way your dog does? They look at you with those big, hopeful eyes, and suddenly, that last bite doesn’t seem so important anymore.

Your dog is always welcome on your bed.

If your spouse steals the covers, you’re instantly irritated—seriously, how hard is it to stay on your side of the bed? But if your dog does it? You can’t help but smile. Sure, they’re taking up way more space than they should, and maybe you’re left with just a tiny corner of the blanket, but their adorable little face makes it all okay.

You’ll happily watch your dog do the most boring things.

People who walk slowly are so annoying. Most of them get on our nerves. But when your dog stops to sniff every single blade of grass? You don’t care about it. In fact, you’ll stand there all day to watch them take in the world at their own pace. Their sniffing sessions become the most important thing about your day.

You can’t wait to get home and see your dog.

No matter what you’re doing, whether at work, running errands, or out with friends, all you can think about is getting home to your dog. You keep counting the minutes until you can walk through that door and see your pup. The moment you finally get there, you’re excited to kiss them, snuggle up, and spend some time together.

You judge stores that don’t let dogs in.

You can’t help but judge those shops that don’t let dogs in. Like, seriously, what kind of people are running this place? How could they not want dogs around? It’s a dealbreaker for you—if you can’t bring your pup, then you’re not getting your business. It doesn’t really make any sense when so many other shops are dog-friendly.

Your dog’s been to the vet more than you’ve seen the doctor.

Your dog has probably been to the vet more times than you’ve been to the doctor your whole life. You’ve lost count of the appointments, but it’s no big deal—you’d do anything to keep them healthy and happy. Meanwhile, your own doctor visits are a rare thing. We bet you don’t even remember the last time you had to go.

You put more effort into your dog’s meals than your own.

You can’t be bothered to make dinner for yourself half the time, but when it comes to making homemade liver snap treats for your dog? You’re all in. You’re willing to put in the effort because you want the best for your pup. It’s like, who cares if you end up eating frozen pizza or takeout—your dog deserves something special, and you’ll happily spend the time whipping up those treats.

Dog hair in your food? No big deal.

If you found human hair in your food at a restaurant, you’d totally freak out—maybe even send the dish back and make a big deal about it. But if you find dog hair in your dinner at home? No big deal. You’ll just take it off and keep eating. Because your dog’ is part of the family, and a little hair here and there doesn’t even faze you.

You follow more dog accounts than people on Instagram.

You couldn’t care less about people’s selfies—they’re just not your thing. But when it comes to dog Instagram accounts? You will follow ALL of them because you’re totally obsessed. Whether it’s cute pups doing tricks or just some adorable dogs living their best lives, you can’t get enough. Those accounts bring you way more joy than any selfie ever could.

If someone says, “It’s just a dog,” you’re done with them.

If someone says, “He’s just a dog,” you’re done. You can’t believe anyone would say that about your pup. Your dog’s family, and if they don’t get that, you’re not wasting any more time on them. It’s like they just don’t understand, and you’re not keeping people around who don’t see how much your dog means to you.
