Blind And Deaf Texas Puppy Was Dumped Outside, Then One Dog Began Following His Every Move

When a vulnerable family of dogs was dumped outside and left to fend for themselves, their future looked incredibly bleak.

Thankfully, a compassionate older couple stepped in and took the entire canine family into their home, ensuring they were safe from the elements.

It didn’t take long for the couple to realize that one tiny puppy in the litter was facing a unique set of challenges.

The little pup, named Duncan, was born with deformed front arms, and they quickly discovered that he was also completely deaf and blind.

Seeking Special Help

Knowing that Duncan would require specialized care, the older couple reached out to an animal rescue for help.

At the time, the sweet puppy was only about five weeks old and incredibly vulnerable.

The rescue network began looking for a dedicated foster who could take him in, specifically someone equipped to handle his unique physical needs.

When one experienced foster heard about Duncan’s situation, she immediately said yes.

A Fearless Arrival

Despite his lack of sight and hearing, Duncan arrived at his new foster home with a surprisingly bold spirit.

Because he was so young and well-socialized, he didn’t experience the typical nervous phase that many rescue dogs go through.

Instead of hiding or cowering during his first few days, he bravely explored his new surroundings.

He joined the resident group of dogs right away, acting as if he had always been a part of the family.

Meeting His Best Friend

Out of all the dogs in the house, one resident dog named Winnie quickly became Duncan’s absolute favorite.

Winnie will let Duncan jump all over him during playtime, never getting mad or walking away from the energetic little guy.

To help Duncan gain mobility despite his deformed front arms, his foster mom introduced him to a custom canine wheelchair.

Different dogs take to their wheelchairs in different ways, and Duncan’s approach was heavily influenced by his lack of sight.

Because he is blind, he doesn’t just go running off; instead, he is very cautious and walks a little slower to feel out his environment.

While Duncan was learning how to use his new wheels, Winnie stayed just three feet away, watching over him.

A Calming Presence

Having Winnie’s calm energy nearby makes a world of difference in keeping Duncan comfortable and feeling secure.

Whenever Duncan has to try a new thing or navigate a strange space, Winnie comes along to provide emotional support.

His foster mom quickly realized how much this dynamic helps the blind and deaf puppy thrive.

“I think Winnie’s a bit like his guide dog,” she lovingly explained.

Navigating a Dark and Silent World

While Winnie provides canine support, Duncan’s foster mom has also had to adapt her training methods to help him navigate.

She relies heavily on touch training to communicate with the deaf and blind pup.

By tapping him in different spots on his body, she is able to gently tell him, “I’m here.”

To keep his environment safe and predictable, she tries to never move the furniture around so he can successfully memorize the layout of the room.

Unstoppable Confidence

Thanks to a dedicated foster mom and a loyal canine brother, Duncan has blossomed into a joyful, thriving dog.

His confidence has grown immensely from the fragile five-week-old puppy who first came home.

Despite being deaf, blind, and needing a wheelchair, he doesn’t let anything slow him down.

At this point, his disabilities aren’t even a factor—he faces every single day with a “bring life on” attitude.
