Alabama Woman Spots A Dog Beside A Highway Sign And Uses A Pack Of Gum To Reach Him
Abandoned on the side of a busy highway, a sweet dog named Polo was dismissed by passersby. But one woman refused to leave him behind, sparking a cross-country journey to a beautiful new life.
A Lonely Figure By The Road
It was just an ordinary drive along an Alabama highway when Molly spotted something heartbreaking on the side of the road. A dog was standing all alone right next to a highway sign.
He looked lost, confused, and completely vulnerable as the traffic rushed by. For Molly, ignoring him simply wasn’t an option.
When she told others about the dog, the advice she received was shocking. People actually told her to just leave him there because he was a pit bull.
But Molly refused to listen to the skeptics. She knew this unexpected rescue mission was exactly what she was meant to do.
Throwing Caution To The Wind
Everything Molly knew about safely approaching a strange stray dog went completely out the window. She just knew she had to get him to safety before he wandered into the busy road.

Some individuals even callously told her that the dog’s situation was just “natural selection” and that he belonged out there.

The Long Journey Home
Before he could travel, the dog—now named Polo—had to go through the proper channels. He was scanned for a microchip and completed a mandatory stray hold.
Once he was cleared, he was neutered, given his necessary vaccines, and finally prepped for the long transport up the East Coast.
When the transport truck finally arrived in Massachusetts, Molly was overflowing with excitement. Seeing Polo step off that truck was a moment she would never forget.
From that very first day in his new state, Polo was incredibly peaceful. He glued himself right to Molly’s side, acting like he simply could not get close enough to his hero.
Learning How To Be A Dog
At the time Polo arrived, Molly already had four other rescue dogs at home. However, Polo was the very first dog she had physically rescued from the streets herself.
He was still very thin and required months of dedicated care and proper nutrition to get his coat shining and his weight back to normal.
It quickly became obvious that Polo hadn’t experienced much of a normal life indoors. He had very little training and didn’t even know how to navigate a flight of stairs.
He wasn’t housebroken either, meaning Molly had to start from square one. But despite his lack of manners, he was exceptionally sweet with everyone he met.
Winning Over A Reluctant Grandpa
One of the biggest hurdles in Polo’s new life was Molly’s dad. He had firmly declared that the family did not need another dog.
But Polo seemed to sense that he needed to put in a little extra effort to impress his new grandfather. The moment the two met, an instant and undeniable bond was formed.
Molly’s dad is a towering six-foot-seven man, but he melted completely for the affectionate pit bull. He even started laying right out on the driveway just to cuddle with Polo.
Now, Polo knows exactly where he is the second they pull into his grandpa’s driveway. He just wants to be with him at all times, showing endless gratitude.
The Gentlest Soul
The bond between Polo and his grandpa only grew stronger with time. They now have special “grandpa days” where they take day trips together, exploring pet-friendly stores and walking around town.
But Polo’s gentle nature extends far beyond his favorite cuddle buddy. He also spends a lot of time visiting Molly’s 89-year-old grandmother.
Her grandmother lives in a memory care unit and is very frail. Normally, Polo is a dog who always wants to climb right up into your lap.
Yet, he somehow knows exactly what to do around her. He simply lays quietly on the floor next to her, content just to be touching something with a heartbeat.
A Beautiful New Chapter
Because Molly didn’t know anything about Polo’s past, she had initially been worried about how he would react to the other four dogs in her home.
But Polo proved her fears wrong in the most endearing way. When he first met his canine siblings, he actually laid down and crawled toward them, trying to make his large body seem smaller and more approachable.
Today, Polo absolutely loves his life. He is a happy, easygoing boy who is thrilled just to follow along with whatever his family is doing.
Every single morning, he wakes up next to Molly and immediately starts wiggling with joy. It’s as if he still can’t believe he gets to wake up safe in a warm bed, ready to start another beautiful day.
