Found wandering North Carolina streets with his sister, a sweet dog named Pork Chop was looking for a second chance. When his new mom met him, it only took five minutes to know he was the one—but she never expected the joyful dance he would do on his second day home.
Lost on the City Streets
Before he knew the comfort of a warm home, Pork Chop was just another lost soul navigating the busy streets of downtown Raleigh.
He wasn’t entirely alone in his wandering. His rescuers noted that he had his sister by his side as they roamed the city together.
No one was entirely sure how the pair ended up there. Whether they were dumped or simply lost their way, the sweet, chunky dog was in desperate need of a safe place to land.
A Five-Minute Decision
When his future mom walked into the shelter, she felt an instant connection.

The Unexpected Dance Moves
On just his second day in his new home, Pork Chop revealed a delightful surprise.
Whenever he got super excited or wanted something, he would stand up and do his own special “dance moves.”
His new mom was completely overwhelmed by the joyful display. “I almost cried,” she said. “It just melted my heart because I’ve never seen a dog actually dance ever before.”
Shadows of a Traumatic Past
Despite his joyful dancing, it soon became clear that Pork Chop carried the weight of a difficult past.
During his first couple of weeks home, he would cower and duck his head whenever his mom reached out to pet him.

Along with emotional healing, Pork Chop also needed help with some persistent physical ailments.
Right before his adoption, shelter staff noted he had an ear infection and a severe skin issue. His skin is bright pink all around, and it causes him to itch constantly.
To help soothe his discomfort, he now gets regular medicated baths while his vet continues testing to find the root cause of his allergies.
The Neighborhood Socialite
Pork Chop hasn’t let his itchy skin or his past trauma dampen his love for people.
In fact, he loves absolutely anyone he comes into contact with. This friendly nature sometimes turns simple walks into long social events.
Whenever someone walks by, Pork Chop runs right up to them, throws himself onto his back, and demands belly rubs from the strangers.
A Couch Potato’s Happy Ending
Today, the dog who once roamed downtown Raleigh lives a life of pure leisure.
His mom lovingly describes him as a “couch potato” about 90 percent of the time. For the remaining 10 percent, he gets completely wild, plays with his toys for ten minutes, and then goes right back to sleep.
Safe, loved, and finally understood, Pork Chop never has to worry about the streets again—he only has to worry about when his next nap will be.
