When a vocal little dog was deemed ‘too much work’ by his previous family, a fateful phone call from an Arizona shelter led him straight into the arms of a woman who loves his conversational personality.
Unwanted For Finding His Voice
Some dogs find themselves back at the shelter for the most heartbreaking reasons. For one little dog named Buddy, his vocal personality was deemed a flaw.
His previous family decided he was simply too much work to keep around. They complained that he was too chatty and barked too often.
Unable to handle his expressive nature, they prepared to return him to the Humane Society. Buddy had no idea his life was about to change all over again.
An Urgent Call From The Shelter
Fortunately, fate had a different plan in store for the talkative pup. A woman’s daughter happened to be working at the Humane Society in Arizona at the exact right time.
When she learned about Buddy’s impending surrender, she immediately thought of her mother. She picked up the phone and told her all about the little dog who just wanted to be heard.
Without hesitation, her mother knew she had to intervene. "I said, ‘Okay, I’ll be right over,’" she recalled.
Leaping Into A New Life
The woman drove straight to the location to meet the dog who had been rejected for his voice. The moment they locked eyes, something magical happened.
Buddy didn’t hesitate or show any fear toward the stranger. Instead, he made his choice abundantly clear.
"I remember when he saw me, he just pushed off them to get to me, and I got him," his new mom shared. In that instant, he was finally safe.
A Boy Who Loves To Talk
Once Buddy settled into his new home, his mom quickly realized why his previous owners had been so overwhelmed. But instead of being annoyed, she was entirely charmed.
Buddy wasn’t just barking at nothing; he was trying to communicate. He would sit right in front of her, stare deeply into her face, and start "talking."
"He’s an incredible little guy," she said, noting how he genuinely tries to hold a conversation.
Holding Mom Accountable
Buddy’s intelligence goes far beyond simple vocalizations. He actually understands the words his mom says to him, especially when it comes to his daily routine.
If she mentions going for a walk but tells him to "wait," Buddy takes the instruction very seriously. He will give her a look of disbelief and walk away.
However, he doesn’t let her off the hook for long. He will circle back around and start vocalizing again, as if to say, "Did you forget? We were supposed to go on a walk."
A Human In A Dog’s Body
Unlike most dogs, Buddy has absolutely no interest in standard canine entertainment. Squeaky toys and chew bones simply don’t capture his attention.
"He doesn’t think he’s a dog, so he thinks he’s a human," his mom explained. His main priority is always the people around him.
He wants to be involved in every human activity and conversation happening in the house. To Buddy, he is just another member of the family sharing his opinions.
The Post-Vacation Lectures
Because Buddy views himself as an equal member of the household, he gets very offended when he is left behind. Watching his parents pack their luggage is a source of great frustration.
When they finally return home from a trip, Buddy makes sure they know exactly how upset he is. He doesn’t just greet them with tail wags; he gives them a piece of his mind.
He will adopt a specific posture and rant for 10 to 15 minutes straight. "How dare you leave me? Where were you? Why didn’t I go with you?" his mom joked about his lengthy scoldings.
One In A Million
Despite his demanding nature and his strong opinions on everything, his family wouldn’t trade him for the world. His unique personality is exactly what makes him so special.
His mom has loved many dogs throughout her life, but she admits that Buddy stands out from the rest. "He’s not a normal dog. He just never was," she said.
The little dog who was once unwanted for being too loud finally found the perfect audience. Now, every chatty remark and grumpy lecture is met with patience, love, and a request for a kiss.
