Before This Dog Could Reach California, Rescuers Had To Get Her Out Of A Dangerous Canal
A dog left in a precarious box by a canal was too weak to stand, but a dedicated rescue team helped her rediscover her sassy, loving personality in California.
A Precarious Drop

According to witnesses, a truck had dropped off a box right at the edge of a steep canal. The placement was incredibly dangerous.
If any type of movement happened inside the cardboard, the box was bound to break and fall into the ditch below.
Flor was the dog trapped inside that box. When the frightened pup shifted her weight, the inevitable happened, and she went tumbling right down into the canal.
She just laid there at the bottom, entirely immobilized. She was so incredibly weak from her ordeal that she couldn’t even try to get up.
The Cantu Foundation Steps In

Thankfully, someone captured video of the stranded dog and shared it on social media. The heartbreaking footage quickly caught the attention of The Cantu Foundation.
The rescue team knew they had no time to waste. They immediately arrived at the scene to help the helpless dog.
Rescuers carefully made their way down to Flor and managed to pull her up to safety. She was finally out of the dangerous ditch.
However, her condition was alarming. The poor dog couldn’t even lift her head up, and she remained completely unable to move on her own.
A Heartbreaking Diagnosis

Flor was rushed to the veterinary clinic to figure out what was keeping her so paralyzed. The team ran comprehensive blood work and took X-rays.
When the results came back, the rescuers were surprised to realize that there was nothing majorly wrong with her internally.
It seemed like she was just profoundly weak from neglect. She had simply been discarded and left to fade away.
With proper nutrition, hydration, and a lot of gentle care, the rescue team hoped she would slowly regain her strength.
Day And Night Difference

The team’s dedication paid off faster than anyone could have imagined. Within just three days, Flor started walking with support.
The rescuer noted that the difference was absolutely incredible. It was like looking at a completely different dog.
She went from not being able to walk at all to letting her true spirit shine. Her rescuer lovingly described her as “the sassy girl that she is.”
As her physical strength returned, her vibrant personality started coming out, proving she still had plenty of life left to live.
A Freedom Ride To A New Life

The day Flor was cleared to leave was incredibly emotional for the rescue staff. At 7 a.m. that morning, a team member texted the group to announce the big news.
“Flor is getting her freedom ride today,” the message read. It was time for her to say goodbye to Mexico and head toward a brighter future.
She was placed in a dedicated foster home where she could finally get the one-on-one attention she had deserved her whole life.
In her new environment, Flor proved to be a giant baby and a total lover girl. All she wanted was for someone to throw a ball for her and give her head scratches.
Changing The “Sad Story” Narrative

Flor’s incredible bounce back is a testament to the resilience of rescue dogs. Even though she had every reason not to trust humans, she loves everyone she meets.
Too often, adoptable dogs are viewed by the public as just “sad stories.” Rescuers know firsthand that these animals are so much more than their difficult pasts.
To help change this narrative, a rescuer named Jordan decided to highlight the very distinct personalities of the dogs in her care.
She started capturing each of their unique reactions to getting gentle kisses, proving just how much love these animals have to give.
Kisses For Robin And Bert

During the adorable kiss test, a dog named Robin initially felt a little shy. However, after a moment of gentle affection, she sweetly started to ask for more.
Then there was Bert, who was very quick to completely melt into Jordan’s lap. He soaked up every ounce of attention he could get.
Bert had been abandoned by a breeder alongside his brother, Ernie. Despite their rough start, the two boys make for the most playful pair.
Their reactions showed that even dogs who have been let down by humans are still eager for connection and comfort.
Tommy The Tripod And Isaiah

The project also featured Tommy the tripod, a very enthusiastic lapdog. He had been rescued after tragically being hit by a car.
Despite losing a leg, Tommy hasn’t lost a single ounce of his goofy personality. He was more than happy to participate in the love-fest.
Next up was Isaiah, a dog rescued all the way from a shelter in Bosnia. He was ready for what Jordan called a “professional kissathon.”
Isaiah is closely bonded to his best dog friend, who playfully competes against him for the title of best underbite.
A Future For Every Rescue

The sweet showcase wouldn’t be complete without Laena. Like a typical pittie, she demanded to be cradled exactly like a baby.
These beautiful moments are exactly why Jordan works so hard. She uses every penny she raises to rent facilities that keep rescue dogs safe until they find forever homes.
Her ultimate goal is to raise enough funds to buy a permanent rescue center, allowing her to save even more dogs in need.
From Flor’s miraculous recovery from a canal box to Laena’s baby-like cuddles, these resilient dogs prove that a little bit of love can completely rewrite their stories.
