Paralyzed Puppy Waited On His Last Call In A Nevada Shelter Kennel Then Started Doing Something No One Expected
When a puppy with paralyzed legs landed on a Nevada shelter’s euthanasia list, one woman stepped up to foster him. She never expected the incredible milestones he was about to reach.
A Beautiful Face On Borrowed Time

Abby was scrolling through her feed one morning when she saw a beautiful, unforgettable face. It belonged to a small puppy sitting in a shelter kennel.
The puppy, later named Benny, had been surrendered to a facility in Fresno, California. Abby guessed that his previous owners gave him up because his legs hadn’t worked since birth.
Because of his severe mobility issues, Benny’s time was running out. He was on his last call, and he was scheduled to be put to sleep if no one stepped up to adopt him.
A Desperate Plea Across State Lines

Abby, who lives in Reno, Nevada, knew she couldn’t just look away. She knew the shelter couldn’t hold the paralyzed puppy much longer.
Determined to save his life, she reached out to a local rescue group in Nevada.
Thankfully, the organization was able to intervene just in time. They successfully pulled Benny from the Fresno shelter, securing his second chance at life.
An Instant Connection

When Benny finally arrived at Abby’s home, he didn’t show any signs of fear or hesitation. He warmed up to his new foster mom immediately.
He also quickly bonded with Abby’s other dogs. Despite his legs, he instantly wanted to play and join in on the fun.
His bright spirit was undeniable. Benny was just happy to finally be in a safe, loving environment.
The Pirate Walk

Abby fully expected to care for a paralyzed dog, figuring she could build ramps around the house to help him get around. But Benny had other plans.
Surprisingly, the determined puppy started trying to walk. Slowly, he began balancing on his hind legs.
He eventually figured out that if he took it slow, he could kick his legs out to move forward. Abby lovingly jokes that he walks like a pirate.
Defying All Expectations

Benny’s progress didn’t stop at a slow walk. Soon, he was out in the yard doing joyful hops in the snow.
Then, to everyone’s absolute amazement, he started running. The puppy who was never supposed to walk was suddenly racing around.
Abby quickly learned that Benny had a fearless personality. He simply wasn’t scared of much, tackling every obstacle with enthusiasm.
The Gentle Ambassador

As Benny grew, his sweet nature became even more apparent. He started attending a local doggy daycare in town on certain days.
His demeanor is so kind and gentle with the other dogs that he earned a very special role at the facility.
The daycare staff actually uses Benny as an introductory dog to help new, nervous dogs feel welcome and safe in the pack.
A Little Brother Named Watson

Benny’s family eventually grew when Abby brought home another special needs dog named Watson from a shelter in Madera, California.
Watson, who uses a wheelchair, quickly became Benny’s new best friend and little brother. Benny is always willing to cuddle and sleep right next to him.
When they go out on walks, Watson follows Benny everywhere. Abby notes that there is no better environment for a differently-abled dog than living with a brother who has already overcome his own challenges.
The Perfect Foster Fail

Originally, Benny was only supposed to be a foster dog. Because of his handsome, German Shepherd-like looks, a lot of people would inquire about adopting him.
However, as soon as potential adopters heard about the disabilities with his legs, they would quickly say, “No, thank you.”
It saddened Abby that people weren’t willing to adapt their homes for him, but it also made her realize that Benny was exactly where he belonged. She officially made him a permanent part of her family.
A Daily Inspiration

Today, Abby’s main focus is on the dogs that other people choose to pass by. She knows firsthand that they provide just as much love as any other pet.
Despite his rough start in life, Benny is as happy as any other dog could possibly be. He never let his physical limitations slow down his spirit.
For Abby, saving Benny was the best decision she ever made. His incredible journey reminds her every single day to get up, go out, and truly enjoy life.
