Texas Pit Bull Meets A Rehomed Donkey Supposedly Wary Of Dogs, And Their Instant Connection Is Beautiful
A Texas miniature donkey named Wendell was rehomed because he was wary of dogs, but a joyful pit bull named Oakley refused to let him stay lonely.
An Unexpected Addition

Wendell the miniature donkey came into his new owner’s life when he needed to be rehomed.
His previous owner had given a specific warning about the little donkey’s temperament.
They believed that Wendell was naturally wary of both people and dogs.
Because of this, his new family knew they would have to be patient with him.
The Welcoming Committee

Fortunately, the family’s pit bull, Oakley, had a completely different perspective on life.
Oakley’s personality is incredibly outgoing; he loves everybody he meets.
More importantly, Oakley makes it his personal mission to ensure that everybody loves him back.
He didn’t care for a second that Wendell was an entirely different species.
A Peaceful Introduction

When bringing a new animal home, the owner prefers a hands-off approach to let everyone sort it out on their own.
Instead of making a big deal out of separating them, they allow the animals to get an understanding of each other naturally.
There is no pressure placed on the pets to interact before they are ready.
This creates a very peaceful environment where trust can build at its own pace.
Breaking the Ice

Oakley wasted no time in introducing himself to the new arrival.
The joyful dog ran right up to the donkey, getting right in his face with a welcoming attitude.
His body language clearly said, “Hey, who are you? I live here too. Let’s play!”
To everyone’s surprise, the supposedly wary donkey didn’t run away.
Breakfast Buddies

The bond between the two animals grew so strong that they even started sharing meals.
Every morning, Oakley can’t get down to the barn fast enough to see his friend.
Wendell actually likes to take grain out of his bucket and drop it on the floor specifically so Oakley can eat it.
After breakfast, Wendell faithfully follows Oakley outside to start their day together.
Zoomies and Fences

When they first started playing, their owner didn’t realize how unusual it was for a dog and a donkey to become such fast friends.
The two buddies regularly do “zoomies” together across the property to see who can go the fastest.
There is only one slight disadvantage in their games of chase.
Unfortunately for Wendell, he can’t slip under the fences quite like Oakley can.
A Beautiful Transformation

The miniature donkey that supposedly didn’t like people or dogs has completely changed.
Through the unconditional love of a joyful pit bull, Wendell learned to trust again.
Their owner believes that both animals simply felt safe enough to just be who they truly are.
Now, these two unlikely buddies spend their days proving that friendship knows no boundaries.
