The Illinois stray dog didn’t make a fuss. He simply waited outside the house, letting the residents know that he had decided this was his new home.

“He’ll be really adorable and funny, but it’s something that he really shouldn’t be doing,” they explained. They had to act like stern parents, even when they wanted to laugh.

Balto’s talent for finding strange things reached a peak when he somehow acquired a Subway sandwich. The couple hadn’t eaten Subway, leaving them baffled.

Even more amusing, Balto proved to be a picky eater. He carefully picked all the jalapeños out of the mystery sandwich because he didn’t like them.

He also brought home bones that the couple had never purchased, adding to his reputation as a furry scavenger.

Learning From Balto

Despite his high needs and mischievous nature, Balto brought profound lessons to the household. His presence allowed his owners to practice patience and accommodation.

“As a gay trans person, often we are made to believe that small changes and adjustments in systems are not worth it for us,” his owner reflected. They wanted to ensure that attitude didn’t exist in their home.
