California Dog Was Four Days From Losing His Chance When Someone Saw What Others Missed
After spending years in heartbreaking conditions in California, a spotted black dog named Bubba was completely shut down. But a cross-country rescue flight and a patient new family helped him finally discover what it means to be loved.
A Stray At The Door

Bubba’s journey began when he was found wandering as a lonely stray. He eventually showed up at a kind woman’s front door, desperately looking for a safe haven.
Though he was incredibly friendly, the woman already had dogs of her own and simply couldn’t take on the responsibility of another pet.
Hoping to give him a fighting chance, she brought him to a local shelter. Unfortunately, the crowded shelter environment would quickly prove to be a dangerous place for the sweet boy.
Running Out Of Time

At the shelter, Bubba faced an uphill battle. He was a spotted black dog, and the unfortunate “black dog stigma” meant he was constantly overlooked by potential adopters.
Days turned into weeks, and Bubba received zero interest from the public. His spirit began to fade as he waited in his kennel.
The situation grew dire as his time began to run out. He was just four days away from being euthanized when a miracle finally happened.
A Flight To Freedom

Norma had been looking for a dog who was truly in need, and Bubba’s story broke her heart. She knew she had to step in before it was too late.
Through a dedicated rescue network, a plan was set in motion to save his life. Bubba was transported all the way from California to Seattle to start his new chapter.
It was a massive change for a dog who had never known comfort. However, his past traumas were immediately apparent the moment he arrived in Norma’s care.
Scars Of The Past

When Norma first met Bubba, his physical condition told a tragic story. He was severely emaciated, and his body bore the scars of a very difficult life.
Norma suspected he might have been used in a fighting situation in the past. He also had terrible knees and walked like a much older dog, leading his rescuers to believe he had spent most of his life confined to a small crate.
They estimated he was about five years old, but his weary body had clearly been through so much more. He had a long road to recovery ahead of him.
Learning How To Be A Dog

In his new home, Bubba was completely overwhelmed. Everything was so new to him that he didn’t even know how to react to basic household comforts.
Instead of exploring, he would just stand still and observe his surroundings. As Norma noted, he had simply never been treated like a dog before.
But Norma and her family gave him the time and space he needed to decompress. Slowly but surely, Bubba began to realize that he had finally found a safe place.
A Sweet Sisterly Welcome

One of the biggest hurdles for Bubba was getting to know his new furry siblings. Norma already had two other dogs, Shanti and Zoe, and she wanted to make sure they all got along.
The introductions were taken slowly, but Zoe quickly showed Bubba that he was welcome in their pack.
In a heartwarming video captured by Norma, Bubba was lying on his belly when Zoe crept up to him. She gently leaned over and gave him a sweet little kiss, signaling her acceptance. Soon after, Shanti embraced him as well.
Daddy’s Boy

As Bubba’s confidence grew, his true personality began to shine. He proved to be an incredibly affectionate dog, but he formed a special bond with one person in particular.
Bubba became completely devoted to Norma’s partner, firmly establishing himself as a total “Daddy’s boy.”
He follows his dad everywhere, greets him with overwhelming joy every morning, and even has a special routine where his dad tucks him into bed at night.
A Joyful New Life

Today, Bubba is making up for lost time. He is finally learning how to play with toys, even if he still doesn’t quite understand how to fetch a ball.
He has also figured out how to work the system for extra snacks. Every time he steps out onto the porch, he runs straight back to the kitchen, fully expecting Norma to hand over a treat.
Looking at the happy, thriving dog he is today, it’s hard to believe his tragic beginnings. As Norma proudly says, you would never know it was the same dog.
